No Smoking Cruise Ships

Once upon a time Carnival Cruise Line built the first entirely non-smoking ship complete with non-smoking symbols largely painted on each side of the vessel and on its stern.

Smoking is only permitted outdoors on Decks 3 4 and 6 except during meal hours. A policy of no cigarettes no cigars no ashtrays and no second-hand smoke anywhere is at the core of the cruise experience aboard the MS Paradise - and its a policy that is unusual indeed. Smoking may be restricted to certain areas or not allowed.

This also applies to e-cigarettes and extends to all interior areas including staterooms and verandas. Renaissance downfall was bad marketing. I have no problem with ships having smoking areas even an indoor one but I do have a problem with a major public venue allowing smoking.

Some were once completely smoke-free while others are now taking the advice of doctors the govt. Smoking is allowed on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder from 6 pm. As aboard Azamara whose ships are more or less identical to Oceanias smoking is prohibited except in two areas.

This link is a summary of smoking rules for most lines. Cruise ship smoking areas are usually tucked out of the way and are pretty easy for non-smokers to avoid. I remember Carnival trying the no-smoking ship but I dont think it lasted very long.
