The MSC cruise ship MSC Lirica has suffered what appearesto be a major fire while docked at the port of Corfu in Greece.

From a preliminary assessment there was no damage to the inside of the ship but only to her side due to the flames and the dense black smoke caused by the fiberglass lifeboatsaccording to a statement from MSC Cruises. The blaze which broke out on the MSC Lirica at 330pm local time is thought to have started in an empty lifeboat. A fire broke out this afternoon on MSC Lirica cruise ship according to a Greek reporter Kerkyra Simera.
By Jim Walker on March 12 2021. Flames were also visible. MSC Lirica can be seen in the nearly hour-long video with smoke pouring out of the starboard side towards the middle of the vessel on what appears to be the outdoor promenade deck where the lifeboats are kept.
March 12 2021. By 430 pm. MSC Cruises said a fire broke out aboard one of its vessels idled in Greece on Thursday.
No injuries have been reported following the fire. A fire on board MSC Lirica which seems to be originated in an empty lifeboat on deck 6 was reported to the emergency services earlier today in Corfu where the ship is currently in warm layup. In a statement the cruise line confirmed that at 1542 local time in Corfu MSC Lirica reported a fire incident into the MSC Maritime Support Centre in London UK. A HUGE FIRE has broken out on a cruise ship docked on the greek island of Corfu. At the moment the causes of the fire have not been identified while an investigation is under progress.
